GENERAL QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE LOCATION OF THE 2017 NATIONAL BROWNFIELDS TRAINING CONFERENCE?

The 2017 National Brownfields Training Conference will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center located 1000 Ft. Duquesne Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA  15222.

WILL A COAT CHECK/BAG STORAGE BE AVAILABLE?

Yes, coat check/bag storage will be available during registration hours on the second floor, Concourse A/B Foyer of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This is complimentary courtesy of our sponsor, The Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

WILL A MOTHERS ROOM BE AVAILABLE?

Yes, a comfortable room will be available at the Convention Center for nursing mothers.

WILL CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEUs) BE OFFERED?

Yes, CEUs will be offered. Please visit the CEU counter at registration for more information.

IS THERE COMPLIMENTARY WIRELESS INTERNET?

Yes, complimentary wireless internet will be available in all public areas and meeting space at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

HOW DO I SECURE A HOTEL RESERVATION?

An abundance of discounted sleeping rooms will be available through EventSphere, the official housing agency of the conference, at nine local hotels within walking distance to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Please visit the Housing tab for more information and to book your room. WHEN WILL ON-SITE REGISTRATION BE OPEN?

Registration will be open during the following hours on the second floor, Concourse A/B of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center:

  • Monday, December 4, 2017: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Tuesday, December 5, 2017: 7:30 am – 6:30 pm
  • Wednesday, December 6, 2017: 7:30 am – 6:30 pm
  • Thursday, December 7, 2017: 7:30 am – 1:00 pm
WHEN WILL THE ASK ME! INFORMATION DESK BE OPEN?

A Brownfields ASK ME! Desk will be available during all registration hours on the second floor, Concourse A/B of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.  The desk will open at 8:00 am on Monday, December 4, 2017 and remain open for the duration of the conference during registration hours.

WHEN DOES THE CONFERENCE PROGRAMMING BEGIN?

The conference will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Starting with the 9:00 am Opening Plenary Session, the conference will run until 6:00 pm Tuesday (December 5th), 8:30 am – 8:00 pm on Wednesday (December 6th) and will end at 12:45 pm on Thursday, December 7, 2017.   Pre-Conference Training Workshops will take place on Monday, December 4, 2017 between 8:30 am – 3:00 pm.

WHAT ARE THE REGISTRATION FEES TO ATTEND?

In order to offset the cost of the conference, nominal registration fees continue to be implemented for Brownfields 2017.  Please be advised that registration fees increase once pre-registration ends.  See the Registration Page for more information. Registration cannot be processed until payment is received.

CAN PAYMENT BE MADE VIA PURCHASE ORDER?

Yes, please contact QMS directly (888-373-9617) for further instructions.  Purchase order requests must be received by October 6, 2017 for processing and payment. Registration cannot be processed until payment is received.

WHO SHOULD CHECKS BE MADE PAYABLE TO?

Please make checks payable to SRA International, Inc. and mailed to QMS Services, Inc. Attn: 2017 National Brownfields Training Conference 6840 Meadowridge Court, Alpharetta, GA 30005.  Checks should not be mailed to SRA directly.

HOW WILL THE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION CHARGE APPEAR ON MY CREDIT CARD STATEMENT?

Once a registration transaction is completed, the charge will appear as “SRA Brownfields Conf”.

WHAT ARE THE OTHER OPTIONS FOR REGISTERING IF I DON’T WANT TO REGISTER ONLINE?

If you do not want to register via the on-line registration site, please visit the conference website, www.brownfields2017.org and download the printable official registration form under the Registration tab.  Please be advised that payment must be received with the registration form in order for your registration to be processed.

WHAT IF I REGISTER FOR SPECIAL EVENTS (Mobile workshops, Community Reception, etc.) VIA THE OFFICIAL REGISTRATION FORM AND THEY ARE SOLD OUT WHEN MY REGISTRATION IS PROCESSED?

Since special events registration is on a first-come first-served basis, you will be only registered for the events with space remaining.  A refund check will be issued for overpayment if the event is full.

HOW DO I REGISTER IF I AM AN INTERNATIONAL ATTENDEE?

Follow the registration process and select the registration category that best describes your stakeholder group in your country of origin.  If you need assistance, please contact Barbara Jo Trent (barbarajo.trent@csra.com).

WHEN DO THE ON-SITE REGISTRATION FEES BEGIN?

The on-site registration fees will apply beginning on December 4, 2017 at 12:00 am.  The on-site registration fee is the same for Academia/Students and Community Groups/Environmental Justice/Non-Profits and slightly higher for Federal/Local/State/Tribal Governments and the Private Sector. Payment options are cash, check (payable to SRA International, Inc.) or credit card. Please visit one of the on-site registration counters located on the second floor of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

WHAT DOES MY REGISTRATION FEE INCLUDE?

You will participate in a full educational program, which includes access to over 100 educational sessions and events, three plenary sessions with nationally-recognized speakers and leaders and the Exhibit Hall (projected to be over 175 booths).  Meals are not included with your registration fee. Please note that a separate registration fee is required for a few affiliate events like the Community Reception and Mobile Workshops.

ARE ANY MEALS INCLUDED WITH MY REGISTRATION FEE?

No, meals are not included with the registration fee. All attendees are responsible for covering their food and beverage costs. We have left generous timeslots in our educational programming to allow you to experience some of Pittsburgh’s wonderful restaurants located in and around the Convention Center. We also will have several food vendors available for you inside the exhibit hall on the Second Floor of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

ARE SPEAKERS GIVEN A DISCOUNTED REGISTRATION FEE?

Yes, a discount for speaker registration is available until December 3, 2017 at 11:59 pm. Please be advised that registration fees increase once pre-registration ends. On-site registration fees begin at 12:00 am on December 4, 2017.

CAN I REGISTER MY SPOUSE AT A DISCOUNTED RATE?

No, all attendees are required to pay a standard registration fee. With the economy and government limitations, we have restructured this meeting to be a working business event with the opportunity to network professionally and attend educational programming.

WHAT IF A MOBILE WORKSHOP IS SOLD OUT?

Once a Mobile Workshop is sold out, a wait list will be available, but is limited in capacity.  Once you are added to a wait list, you will be notified as space becomes available.

WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION CANCELLATION POLICY?

Conference registration and all paid events, including the Community Reception and the Mobile Workshop Registration, may be cancelled without penalty until 5:00 pm ET on October 6, 2017 via e-mail, fax, or in writing to QMS.  Cancellation requests received after October 6, 2017 will incur a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be issued after November 20, 2017.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR A REFUND IF I PAID VIA A CREDIT CARD AND I CANCEL MY REGISTRATION WITHIN THE ALLOTTED TIMEFRAME?

If a conference registration paid via credit card is cancelled after 60 days, the refund cannot be credited to the credit card.  A refund check must be issued.

CAN CHILDREN ATTEND THE CONFERENCE?

20While the National Brownfields Training Conference is child friendly, this is a professional training conference and there are certain aspects that would not be appropriate or safe for children. Events such as the Community Reception, Mobile Workshops and the Exhibit Hall are not recommended for children under the age of 16. Children attending other aspects of the Training Conference must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.  Children are not required to pay a registration fee.

EXHIBITORS AND EXHIBIT HALL

HOW MANY COMPLIMENTARY REGISTRATIONS DO EXHIBITORS RECEIVE WITH THEIR BOOTH?

Exhibitors receive two (2) full conference registrations per 10×10 booth.  Once an exhibiting company exceeds its allotted number of complimentary registrations, the exhibitor will be required to select one of the other paying exhibitor registration categories.

HOW DO EXHIBITORS REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE?

A separate exhibitor registration site is available.  Once the deposit payment has been received, an email with registration instructions will be sent.

Tuesday, December 5, 2017 – 10:30 am – 6:00 pm

Wednesday, December 6, 2017 – 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Thursday, December 7, 2017 – 9:30 am – 11:30 am

CAN EXHIBITORS ATTEND THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING?

Yes, all our exhibitors are considered conference attendees and are welcome to join the educational programming, including registering for any Mobile Workshops and the Community Reception.

ACCESSIBILITY, PARKING, AND TRANSPORTATION

HOW ACCESSIBLE IS THE DAVID L. LAWRENCE CONVENTION CENTER?

All areas of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center meet ADA requirements. The Center has curb cuts, which provide easy access to the main lobby areas. Sliding glass doors are located at each main lobby with clear access to elevators. The elevators are equipped with Braille signage, and lead to all levels of the Convention Center. All rest rooms are equipped for standard wheelchair accessibility. The Center also provides family rest rooms, which are located throughout the building. Specially marked parking spaces are offered on the first level of the parking garage with close access to building lobbies. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come first-served basis in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center East Lobby.

WILL SCOOTERS AND WHEELCHAIRS BE AVAILABLE?

Yes, if you would like to rent a mobility scooter or wheelchair, please contact Pittsburgh Wheelchair Exchange at 412-241-5121 or inq@pittsburghwheelchairexchange.com to make your reservation. Please advise them you will be attending The 2017 National Brownfields Training Conference at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and the dates you would like to rent. Your pre-reserved equipment will be delivered and picked up from your hotel. Scooter rates are currently $40 a day or $110 for 3 days. A credit card is required to reserve the equipment. Rates are subject to change. Wheelchairs are also available on a first come, first serve basis in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center East Lobby.

IS PARKING AVAILABLE AT THE DAVID L. LAWRENCE CONVENTION CENTER?

Yes, a well-lit, 700-space parking garage with 24-hour security located inside the Convention Center at 10th and Penn Avenue. 17 spaces are reserved for handicapped parking.  Hours are Monday-Friday, 5 am -11 pm and Sunday, 8 am-8 pm.  Cash and credit cards are accepted.  Event rates: 0-15 hours = $12; 15-24 hours = $25.  Level 1: 8’ 2”clearance and level 2” 6’6” clearance.  The garage also has electric vehicle charging stations on level 2.  For more information, visit Alco Parking Corporation.

  • There are over 12,000 parking spaces available within a 15 minute walk of the Convention Center. Real time parking availability can be viewed on parkpgh.org.
  • The loading dock entrance is located at Fort Duquesne Blvd. between 10th Street and Garrison Way. Height restrictions are 13’4” on the 10th Street Bypass.
WHICH AIRPORT IS THE CLOSEST TO THE CONFERENCE LOCATION?

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center is located 19 miles (approx. 28 minutes) from Pittsburgh International Airport.

WHAT ARE THE DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE DAVID L. LAWRENCE CONVENTION CENTER?

From Pittsburgh International Airport: Take 1-376 E (towards Pittsburgh), which becomes I-279 N through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and across the Fort Pitt Bridge. Take Exit 6C, Ft. Duquesne Blvd. Follow sign to Convention Center/Strip District on the 10th Street Bypass. Convention Center on right.

 

From the East/PA Turnpike (RT. 76): Take I-76 W (PA Turnpike) to Exit 57/Pittsburgh. Take I-376 W to Exit 72B, Blvd. of the Allies. Take I-579 N to the 7th Avenue/Convention Center Exit. Take 7th Avenue. Turn right onto William Penn Way. William Penn Way becomes 10th Street. Convention Center straight ahead.

 

From the West/PA Turnpike (Rt. 76): Take I-76 E (PA Turnpike) to Exit 28/Cranberry. Follow signs to I-79 S to I-279 S across Ft. Duquesne Bridge to the 10th Street Bypass. Convention Center on right.

From the North: Take 1-79 S to I-279 S across Ft. Duquesne Bridge to the 10th Street Bypass.  Convention Center on right.

 

From the South: Take I-79 N to Exit 59A/Pittsburgh to I-279 N through the Fort Pitt Tunnel across Fort Pitt Bridge. Take Exit 6, Fort Duquesne Blvd. Follow sign to Convention Center/Strip District on the 10th Street Bypass. Convention Center on right.

WHAT ARE THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS?
  • 28X Airport Flyer: The route runs to and from Pittsburgh International Airport, Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland approximately every 30 minutes. Current pricing $2.75 each way. Departs outside of Door 6, Baggage Claim. All vehicles are wheelchair accessible. Exact change is required and fare is payed upon boarding.  Schedule is available online portauthority.com.

WILL TRANSPORTATION BE AVAILABLE TO THE DAVID L. LAWRENCE CONVENTION CENTER FROM THE HOTELS?

While the conference will not be supplying shuttle buses between the official conference hotels and the Convention Center, the following hotels do offer complimentary shuttle van service to and from the Convention Center on a first-come first-served basis:  Westin Convention Center Hotel,  Cambria Hotel and Suites Pittsburgh -Downtown, Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Downtown, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and Suites Pittsburgh Downtown, Homewood Suites by Hilton Pittsburgh Downtown and Pittsburgh Marriott City Center.  The Embassy Suites by Hilton Pittsburgh Downtown, Hampton Inn and Suites Pittsburgh-Downtown, and Omni William Penn Hotel do not provide shuttle van service.  All hotels are within a 7.5 block radius of the Convention Center.
